Queen's Hospital, Romford
The £200m Queen’s Hospital in Romford, is a new acute hospital replacing the nearby ‘Old Church Hospital’. The new building caters for approximately 930 beds.
BDP architects were responsible for the masterplanning of the overall site and the ‘shell and core’ of the new hospital, built on a former brownfield site, with public routes round the podium and views from the curved ward towers into green spaces. Architects Jonathan Bailey Associates produced the original concept design leading the clinical planning dealing and all aspects of the internal clinical fit out.
The team worked with the Hospital Trust in the development of a unique podium organisation of diagnostic and treatment facilities for optimum adjacency. Additional buildings on the site include a day nursery, an admin building, an energy centre, a bus station for eight buses, a multi-storey car park and a helipad.
