South Francilien Hospital, Corbeil / Évry
South Francilien Hospital, Corbeil / Évry
A well situated regional hospital at the axis of three major routes, the South Francilien hospital is conceived as a coherent group of four separate clinics accommodating 1,000 hospital beds on six levels, yet set in the landscape to give it a human scale.
Adopting a modular plan for flexibility and ease of upgrading, the hospital is arranged around a sequence of courtyards to maximise natural light and transparency.
Its ‘closed’ southern elevation forms a barrier along the Francilienne ring-road while to the north the architecture takes on a more domestic feel opening up to an urban park.
