Brighton Children's Hospital, Brighton

The new hospital is one of only seven dedicated paediatric hospitals in the UK. The site is outstanding with sea views in all directions which have been xploited. A central atrium provides a heart to the design and a bright welcoming reception and a sundeck play area commands panoramic views along Brighton’s seafront for the children and young people.

The widespread use of colour was a key part of the design. It has been designed not to feel like a hospital. A top priority was for natural light, and the design of shallow floors with day-lit spaces was an important environmental onsideration.
